Central City Parkway Store Follows Clinton Township in the Company’s Metro Detroit Refresh
WESTLAND, Mich. Shoppers on Central City Parkway have a brighter, cleaner Value World to walk into. The thrift store at 35300 Central City Pkwy reopened recently, the next of Value World’s 10 Metro Detroit stores to finish its refresh after Clinton Township. Southgate, Warren, and Ypsilanti reopened earlier in the year.
VIP Club members earned Double Rewards Points on every purchase that day. A ribbon cutting opened the store.
New exterior signage and fresh paint went up, and the merchandise displays got an update.
Westland Center sits right next door, and Thomas H. Brown Central City Park and the outdoor space along Hines Park are close by, so the store is easy to fold into a mall run or an afternoon outside. Same lot, new look.
Inside the Westland Store
Westland has a clothing and shoe drop box, which not every Value World location offers. Bring the clothes and shoes your family has outgrown and drop them off for recycling in the store on your way in. Then start on the racks.
Thousands of new and gently used name-brand items go out on the Westland sales floor every day, across six departments:
- Clothing: women, men, kids, and baby
- Jewelry: watches, rings, necklaces, and bracelets
- Electronics: TVs, audio, gaming, and accessories
- Books and media: books, music, and movies
- Housewares: kitchenware, home décor, and small appliances
- Toys and games: video games and puzzles
Check each item before you buy, since sales are final. There are no fitting rooms, but mirrors are set up around the store for a quick look.
Accessible parking and an accessible entrance, a large free lot, and gift cards round out the store.
Where the Savings Come From
Start with the VIP Club, which is free to join and turns every $1 you spend into a point toward money off a later trip. Points last two years. At 100 points you get $5 off, and at 150 points you get $10 off.
Members also get a birthday coupon, members-only sales, and early word on promotions. A Double Points day, like the one at the reopening, gets you to the next reward twice as fast.
Beyond points, three everyday deals bring prices down further:
- Color of the Day: one tag color is 50% off, and it changes daily and differs from store to store
- 99¢ racks: in participating stores
- 3 for $1 Sundays: select color tags, on select Sundays during the year
Family-Owned for More Than 70 Years
Value World opened its first store in Cleveland in 1955, and the founding family’s third generation runs the company today across Ohio, Michigan, and Texas.
Value World buys its stock. Nearly all of it comes from nonprofits, recycling programs, and retailers, and the purchases from nonprofits have helped those organizations raise more than $50 million for their missions.
Over the company’s history, more than 100 million pounds of goods have stayed out of landfills.
This week, bring a bag of outgrown clothes for the drop box and check the Color of the Day before you start shopping.
